Job Title: Barnes & Noble leader

The Role

As the Barnes & Noble leader of the Microsoft Alliance, you will be responsible delivering on our contractual commitments on Windows 8 applications, Cloud , commerce , content integration with the Microsoft ecosystem and for defining and delivering on product strategy of Nook integration with Microsoft  ecosystem including Windows, Office, Bing.

You’ll lead a cross functional team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of a range of products on a Windows mobile 8 platform.  A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.  You will be helping to hire and build your team and systems.

This position is located in Palo Alto, CA or Redmond, WA.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Spearhead the newly established Microsoft | Barnes & Noble strategic partnership.
  2. Responsible for the over-all development life cycle and technology roadmap.
  3. Work across various groups building consensus, resolving issues in a highly matrixed fashion.
  4. Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  5. Cross Functional management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
  6. Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
  7. Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (MS, Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.).
  • The ability to work exceptionally well in a matrixed, influenced fashion across engineering, product management, QA and other disciplines.
  • The key requirement for this position is established skill designing and developing complex, interactive customer experiences.
  • Strong technical credentials, with at least 8-10  years’ experience managing software development teams, ideally with hands-on architectural experience.
  • Mastery of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Java, C/C++, Objective C).
  • Development experience on Windows platforms, including Windows 8 and Azure and a good sense of the ecosystem and players within the mobile market.
  • A strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement solutions for iOS application internals: data storage, database, in-memory data model, networking and data synchronization.
  • Design and build iOS applications from the ground up, implement new features, fixi bugs, and improve performance of our applications.
  • Work closely with the team to define the internal applications structure and architecture essential to a great user experience.
  • Lead internal architecture efforts on your team. Coordinate your work and the work of other engineers on the team.

  • Experience writing code that interacts with a large, complex back end and working with talented server engineers - you need to be able to at least read complex server side code if not write it well. You must have some experience working in a server side scripting language, it would be great if it was PHP since it’s our back - end language of choice.
